Our Story

The story behind The Johns starts with the name.

John is our father’s name and both my twin brother and I’s middle name – Lewis John and Jason John.

Not only this but the inventor of the modern toilet, the ingenious John Harrington, shared the same name. This is why in North America, the toilet is referred to as ‘the John’ – a homage to his contribution.

While Jason and I have been working together in the bathroom industry, accumulating more than four decades of combined experience between us, our tale begins in 1987 at our father’s plumber’s merchants in Essex.

It’s fair to say, we were born into a family that saw toilets as more than just somewhere to visit when nature calls. And, at a young age, we were lucky enough to find ourselves in the United States. It was there that we encountered a fascinating world of creatively in uniquely styled and themed restrooms.

A quirky family tradition was soon born and every time we entered a new bar or restaurant, our first stop had to be the restroom. This tradition also introduced us to the intriguing figure of the ‘White glove Toilet Attendant’ and the incredible service they offered.

Over the years, amidst pipes, fixtures, and design trends, our true passion has always been to entertain. The seeds of The Johns were sown in those uniquely themed restrooms, and now, with a wealth of industry knowledge and a shared dedication to amusement and entertainment, we bring you, The Johns Experience.
